etc info:
-past: beatrice was born on the island of yasait, a daughter of one of the families of saildancers. her tribe was one of the many tribes of ohutzl that originated in the plains/cliffs area of northeastern tefed that took up sailing and migrated east to bedait and the islands surrounding it. though the tribe has been sedentary for a while, and some of the inland tribes have lessened the importance of it, her particular tribe still take great importance in sailing, and saildancing is one of the aspects of their culture which is unique. beatrice has always felt pride and honour to be part of her tribe, and especially to be a saildancer. her older sister, veratrix, is the lead saildancer; and beatrice has always felt a bit like the underdog when it came to saildancing [and several other virtues]. alternately, she has always had a secret loathing for the culture originating in noardol, which is extremely wasteful and harmful to nature, although somewhat advanced [very similar to america/western cultures in this world]. when she was 15, a trader from noardol came to the island to set up trade/etc with the natives. beatrice kept a close eye on the man, and when she found out that he was planning to exploit the tribe badly for his own greed, she engaged in a conflict with the men, and ended up killing the head trader. when the tribe found out, she was put on a short trial and exiled from the tribe in the traditional manner - in a small boat with barely enough provisions to survive, wearing nothing but an old, dirty sail. she ended up landing in tefed, and was found by suzy, who took her in. they live together in a somewhat isolated area in the woods, close to the coast, and most of the time have enough self-sufficiency that they do not need very much outside contact.

-personality: beatrice's temperment is that of an impatient, grumpy youngster, who isn't getting any less stubborn as she ages. she has a strong will and believes firmly in her values, and can be overly outspoken about them, which sometimes clashes with suzy's quiet, withdrawn personality. despite this, the two even each other out and are used to each other's company.
